Writing Down the What?

Writing Down the Bones is an odd name for a blog don't you think?

Here's where it came from:

Choosing a name for this blog was incredibly difficult. I realize I am joining the blogging revolution late and as such should have expected there to be little options left...but still...

In the end...I went with a name and title that have significant meaning to me...but will likely confuse everyone else.

Let's start with an explanation on my twitter handle (@kelsey_bar) because this one is pretty simple. Kelsey Bar was a nickname that my dear Poppa gave to me as a child. I was the youngest grandchild (until I was 12) and he used to say "you are my little kelsey bar that is sweet enough to eat."

It's sappy. It's sentimental. But most importantly it makes me think of him every time I see the word. He died more than 10 years ago and I still miss him.

Me...round about when I became "Kelsey Bar"
How my grandpa signed my autograph book in grade 3...

Writing Down the Bones has a much less personal back story. It is the title of a book I read when I was trying to figure out how to switch my writing style from journalist mode (like I was taught in college) to novelist mode (what I aspired to be).

The book was full of great ideas and advice...much of which I never followed. (which could be the reason I am not a published author today)  But one message stayed clearly with me...

"If you want to be a writer...just pick up a pen and do it."

So that's what I am doing...this blog is my pen and I am a writer once again. I plan to write about many things - my kids, my husband, my friends, my job, things I love and loathe, etc. I hope it is entertaining, readable, funny and maybe even a little poignant.

Most of all its just me - little Kelsey Bar - picking up my pen and Writing Down the Bones.

Right around when I became Kelsey Bar. Pretty sweet right?
